How to Search Franklin Traffic Ticket Records
Indiana's public case search tool is MyCase. It covers all Franklin City Court filings and is free to use. You do not need to register or pay to search.
Go to https://public.courts.in.gov/mycase. Search by your name and date of birth or by case number from your ticket. The results show charges, filing date, scheduled hearing dates, and whether the case is open or resolved. Under IC 5-14-3, Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, most traffic records are available to the public without restriction. This law is why you can search for free without needing to show ID or file a request.
The city's website at franklin.in.gov has a dedicated City Court page at franklin.in.gov/citycourt/ that also links to case lookup and payment resources. If you want to go directly from the city's site to your ticket, that page is the right starting point.
The Indiana MyCase portal is shown below. It is the statewide tool covering all Indiana courts, including Franklin City Court in Johnson County.

When you find your case, check the court name to confirm it says Franklin City Court. The system shows the current status, any open amounts due, and whether a court date is set. If you see a hearing date, make a note of it and the location (Morton Street, not Caisson Drive).
How to Pay a Franklin Traffic Ticket
Franklin City Court accepts payment by mail, in person, and online through the city's website. Each method has specific rules that differ slightly.
By mail: Sign your name on the reverse side of the Summons to indicate you admit the violation. Make a money order for the TOTAL amount listed on the ticket, payable to "Franklin City Court." Mail both to Franklin City Court, 1 Caisson Drive, Franklin, IN 46131. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want a receipt sent back. Personal checks are not accepted for mail payments. Only money orders.
In person: Visit the clerk's office at 1 Caisson Drive during office hours (Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday 1:30-4 p.m., closed 12:30-1:30 p.m. daily). Cash, money orders, debit cards, and credit cards are all accepted in person. This is the most flexible payment method.
Online: The city offers an online ticket payment option through their website. Go to franklin.in.gov and navigate to City Court, then follow the link to online payment. You can also use the Indiana Judicial Branch payment portal at https://public.courts.in.gov/pay/ for court-processed payments.
The due date on your ticket matters. Pay or take action before that date. Under IC 9-30-10, failure to respond to a traffic citation can result in default judgment and driver's license suspension. If you cannot pay by the deadline, call 317-736-3619 and ask for help. Don't just let the deadline pass.
Contesting a Franklin Traffic Ticket
If you want to deny the violation, do not sign the admission side or pay the ticket. Instead, take steps to appear in court and contest it.
The required step is to appear on your scheduled court date to deny the violation. Your ticket includes a court appearance date. Show up at 2851 N Morton Street on that date and tell the court you deny the charge. A trial date will then be scheduled.
At trial, you present your side of the case to Judge Loyd. The officer who issued the ticket will likely also appear. If the officer is absent, the case may be dismissed. Bring any evidence you have: dashcam footage, photos, witness names, or documents relevant to the violation. Being prepared gives you the best chance of a good outcome.
The deferral program is another option. The Prosecutor's deferral program in Johnson County allows qualifying drivers to avoid a conviction. Call 317-346-4525 for questions about the deferral program eligibility and process. This is separate from contesting the ticket. With deferral, you are not saying the ticket was wrong; you're asking to avoid a conviction by meeting certain conditions.
Speed limit violations in Indiana fall under IC 9-21-5. OWI charges under IC 9-30-5 are criminal and require a formal court process. You cannot pay an OWI citation like a standard infraction.
Driving Record and BMV Points
Moving violations in Indiana add points to your BMV driving record. Minor speeding adds 2 points. More serious violations like reckless driving add 6 to 8 points. At 18 points in two years, the BMV suspends your license.
After a conviction in Franklin City Court, the court transmits the record to the BMV. Your driving history is updated within a few weeks. You can see your current point total and violation history at mybmv.com at any time. A certified copy of your record costs $4 and can be ordered online or picked up at any BMV branch.
Operating without proper financial liability documentation while suspended is addressed under IC 9-25-8. If your license is suspended and you're not sure when it gets reinstated, check mybmv.com before you drive. Driving on a suspended license adds another violation and can extend your suspension period.
